Successful Women’s Chess Initiatives That Inspire Us – “Frau Schach” (“Ms. Chess”) from Austria

Aug 11, 2023

We’re happy to introduce you an inspiring female chess initiative from Austria where ladies of all ages and ratings gather together to enjoy a game of chess:)

To launch a successful women’s initiative, you need a passionate and committed leader with a clear vision. Dagmar Jenner, who overtook the role as a director of the solely women’s chess club in 2016, definitely falls under this category.

“The women’s chess club “Frau Schach” (“Ms. Chess”) was established in 2013 by the visionary founder Karoline Spalt. This fall, we’ll be celebrating our 10th anniversary! It is a laid-back collective of women who gather every three weeks at a charming café in Vienna to play, chat, and have fun. Since 2022, we also have regional chapters in western Austria (Bregenz) and southern Austria (Graz).”
